How To Make An Easy Move

Make sure all packing is done prior to your movers arriving. If your finances allow, most moving companies provide packing services.  The moving company will be responsible for anything they pack.  You will be responsible for anything you pack.  NO FLAMABLE ITEMS WILL BE ALLOWED ON TRUCKS. (Packing on move day will slow down your move and possibly alter the way your truck is loaded, thus not maximizing all the cubic space in the truck.)

Make sure all boxes are sealed and labeled.  (You should label all sides of your boxes to clearly identify where they should be placed in your new home.  In addition, clearly identify any fragile boxes in order for your movers to pack the truck accordingly)

Stage your boxes in a Garage or on a ground floor.

Keep in your possession all important documentation such as Banking Information, Health Records, or any other documents with private information.

If your moving locally, save time and money by placing Pictures, Electronics, and other Fragile items in your car.

Defrost and empty your refrigerator.  (Melting Ice can cause water damage to boxes and furniture)

Disconnect Washers and Dryers.  (Be sure to cut the gas line after you disconnect a Gas Dryer.  Your movers will not touch any gas connection)

If you’re handy, disassemble beds and tables prior to the movers arriving.  (Make sure you put the hardware in a safe place so they are not lost in the move)

If you have access to your new location prior to your scheduled move, bring small items over a little at a time.

If you are doing two closings in one day, ask your mover about the cost differential to hold your belongings overnight.  (The stress of moving and closing can sometimes be overwhelming.  Doing the move over two days often times makes the move smoother)

Lighten up dressers and bulky items as much as possible to prevent injury to your movers and your belongings.

Because it is asked so often, tipping is not mandatory but it is always appreciated.
